Smithsonian is a research complex and museum which is made of 19 galleries and museums and the National Zoological Park. The totaled amount of specimens, works-of-arts and objects at the Smithsonian Institute have been estimated at around 137 million. The Tidal Basin is a man-made reservoir, and it is located between the Washington Channel and the Potomac River, in Washington D.C. The Lincoln Memorial is a renowned national monument of US that was built from 1914 to 1922 to honor Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the US. The Lincoln Memorial is a part of the National Mall, and it is located on its western end. Across the Lincoln Memorial is the Washington Monument. The architect who built this memorial was Henry Bacon. Daniel Chester French designed the famous Abraham Lincoln statue in 1920, but the famous Piccirilli Brothers were the ones who actually carved it. It is also important to mention that the artist Jules Guerin, painted the interior murals. Ford’s Theatre is located in Washington DC, and it was a venue for stage performances in the 19th century. However, it is mostly known for being the site of President Abraham Lincoln’s assassination on April 14, 1865. John Wilkes Booth, an actor, and sympathizer of the Confederate’s snuck into the Presidential Box and shot him.
